Alexis Briggins (she/her) is a Ronald E. McNair fellow and Holmes Scholar in the Counseling Psychology Program at Indiana University Bloomington. Her minor is in Human Sexuality. Alexis earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a mental health concentration and a cultural competency certificate from Central Michigan University.
Alexis is deeply committed to serving underserved communities, specifically focusing on the Black community. She is dedicated to making a positive impact through her clinical work and her research endeavors. As a researcher she implements both a critical racial and a sex-positive lenses to investigate race, relationships, and sexuality. She has been a part of Race and Relationships’ N-SPiRE project.
Alexis Briggins is particularly interested in understanding the ways in which sex influences mental health and how sex-positivity shows up in marginalized communities. Her current research investigates how sexual pleasure impacts the mental health of Black college women. She plans to expand her research into various other ways of exploring sex-positivity. Alexis’ long-term goal is to open her own private counseling center that focuses on the mental and sexual health of those in the Black community.
